Mobile game Destiny: Rising announced by NetEase and Bungie

The long-anticipated mobile game set in the Destiny universe has been announced.

Destiny: Rising is a free-to-play sci-fi RPG shooter for iOS and Android devices, which is being developed and published by NetEase Games under license of Bungie.

Pre-registration is now open ahead of the launch of its first closed alpha test, which is scheduled to begin on November 1 in the US and Canada.

“Enter an era of heroes and legends, where familiar Destiny faces meet intriguing new characters, each with a rich story, unique personality, and formidable skills,” reads a description of the game on its official website.

“Experience top-tier sci-fi shooting action in FPP or TPP as you embark on a new adventure in an alternate Destiny timeline. Play as these unique characters to defend future Earth and reclaim humanity’s future!”

NetEase senior VP Ethan Wang claimed the game will “deliver a Destiny-caliber experience to mobile devices”.

Terry Redfield, creative lead at Bungie, added: “For over a decade, we have built this universe to contain many unique and wonderful stories, and we are excited to see mobile gamers be able to experience this new take on the Destiny universe from the creative team at NetEase.”

NetEase invested $100 million to become a minority shareholder in Bungie four years before the studio was acquired by Sony in 2022. At the time, Bungie said the deal would help it “explore new directions” and “build new worlds”.

The existence of a mobile game based on Destiny was first reported on in 2022.
