Minecraft PS4 finally supports cross-platform play
Minecraft Bedrock update coming to Sony’s console this week
The PS4 version of Minecraft will finally support cross-platform play beginning on Tuesday.
Starting on December 10, PS4 players will be able to update to the unified Bedrock version of Minecraft via a free update.
Following the update, cross-platform play will be supported across Xbox One, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android mobile devices, Gear VR and PS4.
Players will need to have an active PlayStation Plus subscription and a free Microsoft account for cross-platform play.
PS4 owners will be able to buy community-made content from the Minecraft Marketplace, with purchases and progress carrying across to other platforms.
Minecraft sales topped 176 million units as of May 2019, when the series celebrated its tenth anniversary, according to owner Microsoft.
The company said in September that the game attracts over 112 million players every month.
Minecraft is YouTube’s most popular game of 2019 with over 100 billion views on the video sharing platform.
