Microsoft’s Black Friday deals include $50 off Xbox Series S
The console’s price will drop to $249 in the US, other regions to be confirmed
Microsoft has announced its series of Black Friday deals, including a $50 reduction on the price of Xbox Series S.
The digital-only console, which usually costs $299 in the US, will now cost $249, starting today on the Microsoft Store.
Canada has seen a similar discount, with the Series S price dropping from to $379 to $319.
Microsoft has not yet made it clear when this offer will end, nor has it specified whether the console’s price will drop in other countries. On the UK Microsoft Store, for example, the console sits at its usual price of £249.
Other Black Friday deals from Microsoft include:
- up to 30% off select Xbox Wireless Controllers
- up to 40% off select SteelSeries accessories for Xbox and PC
- up to 60% off select PowerA mobile accessories
- $200 USD off the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal for Xbox
- up to $60 USD off select Thrustmaster accessories for Xbox and PC
- up to $80 USD off select Razer accessories for Xbox and PC
Xbox has also launched a Black Friday Sale on its digital game stores, with over 900 console games and 200 PC games discounted by up to 67%.
This includes discounts of up to 50% on Xbox Game Studios titles including Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Sea of Thieves and Grounded.
The Series S price drop, while temporary, may lead to further comparisons with the PlayStation 5, which in August received a price increase in most of the world (with the US being a notable exception).
Following Sony’s announcement, the UK arms of both Microsoft and Nintendo told VGC that they weren’t currently planning to raise console prices.
However, Microsoft‘s head of gaming Phil Spencer then suggested last month that Xbox consoles, games and/or subscriptions may increase in price in the future.
“I think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things,” Spencer said at WSJ Tech Live, “but going into the holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices.”
He added: “We’ve held price on our console, we’ve held price on games […] and our subscription. I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever. I do think at some point we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things.”
