Microsoft says the Final Fantasy back catalogue is still coming to Game Pass
X, XII, XIII and more coming “in 2021 and beyond”
Microsoft has confirmed that a number of Final Fantasy games originally planned to join Xbox Game Pass last year are still coming to the service.
At X019 in November 2019, the platform holder announced that ten games from the Final Fantasy series would be joining Xbox Game Pass during the following year.
However, TrueAchievements reports that only four games from the planned roster have so far been added: Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy XV.
Still missing from the X019 list is Final Fantasy X: HD Remastered, Final Fantasy X-2: HD Remastered, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, though the games are available to purchase individually.
In a statement, Microsoft indicated that the remaining Square Enix titles would arrive on Game Pass “in 2021 and beyond.”
A Microsoft spokesperson said: “As we announced at X019, we are excited to bring the Final Fantasy franchise to gamers with Xbox Game Pass.
“We have done so throughout 2020 and will continue to do so in 2021 and beyond. We look forward to announcing specific launch dates for more Final Fantasy titles in the future.”
Microsoft recently revealed the next wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and Android. They include Injustice 2 (Android, console and PC) on January 7, Torchlight III (Android and console) on January 14 and What Remains of Edith Finch (PC) on January 14.
The latest additions join the titles added to Game Pass in December, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (console and mobile), Among Us (PC) and The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan (PC).
