Metal Slug Tactics turns SNK’s run ‘n gun into a turn-based strategy game
The classic Neo Geo series has taken an interesting turn
SNK has announced Metal Slug Tactics, a new turn-based strategy game based on SNK’s Metal Slug series.
Although the Metal Slug games were originally run ‘n gun action games, this is the first time the series has been presented as a strategy title.
The game is being published by Dotemu and SNK, and will be developed by Leikir Studio, a French developer previously responsible for Wonder Shot and Isbarah: The First Journey.
Metal Slug Tactics brings together the series’ heroes Marco, Eri, Fio and Tarma as they lead the Peregrine Falcon Squad into a new battlefield.
“Players wield classic METAL SLUG weaponry, leveraging skill trees, perks, and a super attack-fueling adrenaline system to outwit and demolish flanks of the series’ signature villains,” a statement from Dotemu reads.
The game’s missions are procedurally generated, built “from different combinations of hand-crafted terrain tiles, keeping battle layouts unpredictable and ensuring clashes are won through calculated strategy rather than memorization”.
The game’s music is provided by Tee Lopes, who previously worked on Sonic Mania, League of Legends and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
