Metal Gear Solid V’s PS3 and Xbox 360 online servers are being terminated
The Phantom Pain’s purchase system ends today, with a complete shutdown in 2022
Konami has announced that the online services for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be terminated on PS3 and Xbox 360, with the first step taking place today.
A notice on the Konami website reads: “Thank you for playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. We regret to inform our users that online services for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will be terminated on 2022-05-31 6:00 (UTC).”
While the main Phantom Pain game will still be playable offline, the Metal Gear Online spin-off included with it will no longer be playable on those consoles.
According to Konami, the first step of the process begins today with the termination of the game’s purchasing system.
Then, on November 30, DLC for Metal Gear Online will no longer be available to buy.
The next step will be carried out on March 1, 2022, where the game will no longer be available on the PS3 or Xbox 360 digital stores.
Finally, on May 1, 2022, the entire online service will be retired, meaning players will no longer be able to connect to any online features.
In its notice, Konami assures players: “While the online service will end the main game will still playable offline.” It also stresses that no refund will be made for any in-game items purchased.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released worldwide on September 1, 2015 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
It would appear that the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions of the game will retain their full online functionality for now.
