Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection on PC has already been modded for 1080p and 4K support
A new mod lets players enable 2160p for Metal Gear Solid 3
An unofficial mod has already been released for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1 which lets players change the resolution for Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.
Players have been expressing their disappointment that the new versions of the second and third game in the Metal Gear Solid series render at 720p on PC, meaning the image can look blurry on higher resolution monitors.
However, as spotted by PC Gamer, the new mod, which is called MGSResolutionPatch, is an “experimental” plugin for the Steam version of the collection.
The patch involves copying a few files to the game’s directory on PC, then loading up a provided .ini file with a text editor where the new resolution can be entered.
While players can theoretically enter any resolution they want, the mod’s creator Sergeanur recommends the standard 1080p and 2160p resolutions because anything else is “not guaranteed to produce an adequate image”.
Sergeanur also notes that the mod works best with Metal Gear Solid 3, stating that while it does work with Metal Gear Solid 2 the increase in resolution can result in “noticeable bugs” in the UI.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 was released earlier this week.
The collection includes the first three Metal Gear Solid games, as well as the original MSX2 versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, and the NES games Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge.
It also includes further additional content, including digital graphic novels, screenplay books and master books with story and character information, strategy guides for each game and a digital soundtrack.
