McDonald’s UK Happy Meal gifts offer new look at The Super Mario Bros. Movie
The promotional items will be available by next month
McDonald’s will soon sell Happy Meals based on Nintendo and Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. Movie.
As shown in images shared by a VGC reader, UK-based McDonald’s restaurants are now receiving the bonus items set to be packaged with the meals, which are paper craft kits based on characters from the Mario Movie.
The images – posted below – offer new looks at characters from the animated movie, including Cranky Kong on a bike, Mario and Luigi’s work van and more.
The paper craft kits are different from the range of toys set to appear at McDonald’s elsewhere in the world, since McDonald’s UK and Ireland pledged to remove plastic toys from its Happy Meals starting in 2021.
In the UK, the Mario Movie happy meals are set to launch by January 4, 2023. This was likely planned to sync with the animated film’s original December 2022 release date, before it was delayed to March 2023.
Nintendo and Illumination premiered the second trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie last month.
Shown during a Nintendo Direct presentation, it opens with Mario fighting Donkey Kong, and lets fans hear the voices of Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Luigi (Charlie Day) for the first time. It also shows a racing scene inspired by Mario Kart.
The film’s debut trailer was released in October and gave fans the first chance to hear Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario.
It was also confirmed last month that The Super Mario Bros Movie will be coming to parts of Europe, Australia and South America before it arrives in North America on April 7, 2023.
Universal Studios UK has announced that the film will release in UK cinemas on March 31. Meanwhile, Universal Studios France has confirmed a March 29 release for French cinema-goers.
The earliest date to be confirmed so far is Belgium, where the film will release on March 22. It will release in Australia and New Zealand on March 30.
