Marvel’s Midnight Suns gets an October release date

Publisher 2K has confirmed that Marvel’s Midnight Suns will now release on October 7.

The PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC versions of the game will be released on the newly-confirmed date, while the Switch version “will be available at a later date”.

The release date was revealed during a new trailer which was shown during the Summer Game Fest show today.

The trailer shows the Midnight Suns fighting against Lilith’s army, joined by two new playable heroes including Spider-Man.

The heroes face off against Lilith’s own group of enemies, including corrupted Fallen versions of Venom, Sabretooth, the Hulk and Scarlet Witch.

2K also confirmed that there will be four different editions of the game:

  • Standard Edition – $59.99. Base version on PS4, Xbox One and PC
  • Enhanced Edition – $69.99. Base version on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, plus five premium skins
  • Digital+ Edition – $79.99. All formats, 11 premium skins
  • Legendary Edition – $99.99. All formats, 23 premium skins and Season Pass

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was officially revealed in August 2021, following its outing by multiple sources earlier in the summer.

Initially planned for release in March 2022, 2K announced in November that it had been delayed to the second half of the year.

In a statement published on social media at the time, creative director Jake Solomon stated that the development team needed more time to improve the quality of the game.

“We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly,” he said.

“We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible. We believe in our creative vision for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and want to do justice in delivering an unforgettable adventure”.

The game is being developed by Firaxis Games, the studio best known for the XCOM games. However, the game also features a relationship building system similar to some other turn-based strategy games, most notably the Fire Emblem series.

Although Midnight Suns will feature a host of Marvel superheroes, the player will mainly control a new character called the Hunter, who is the “forsaken child” of Lilith, the “mother of demons”.
