Marvel’s Avengers was the most downloaded beta in PlayStation history
Superhero game hits stores this week
The recent Marvel’s Avengers beta test was the most downloaded beta in PlayStation history.
That’s according to publisher Square Enix, which congratulated developer Crystal Dynamics on the achievement on Wednesday.
On PlayStation the Marvel’s Avengers beta ran for three consecutive weekends in August, with the first one reserved for pre-order customers.
Marvel’s Avengers will be released for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia on September 4, 2020. Avengers is also set to launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X later this year and owners of the current-gen version will be able to upgrade at no additional cost.
Speaking during a financial results briefing in August, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda said the company has “very high” expectations for Marvel’s Avengers. “We hope to build excitement around the title by rolling out powerful add-on content,” he added.
Square Enix recently detailed how cosmetics will work in Marvel’s Avengers, including plans to offer a $10 Battle Pass—called a Hero Challenge Card—for each post-launch hero.
Kate Bishop will be the first post-launch hero when she arrives in October, followed by Hawkeye in November. PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man will join the game in 2021.
