Marvel’s Avengers is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X launch
Current-gen players can upgrade for free
Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers will be available at launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the publisher announced on Monday.
The next-gen console versions will feature enhancements such as ray-racing, and players moving from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X will be able to upgrade at no additional cost.
They will be able to transfer their saves, player profiles and progression to next-gen consoles, Square Enix said, and cross-gen play will be supported within the specific console families.
On the features of the next-gen versions of Avengers, the publisher said to expect “extremely fast” load times, boosted resolution and fidelity, improved texturing and armour destruction, ray tracing, and more.
On PlayStation 5, Avengers will be “fully utilizing” the ultra-high speed SSD, Square Enix claimed, as well as the PS5 DualSense advanced haptics, and immersive spatial audio.
PS5 will also provide players with their choice of Enhanced Graphics Mode or High Framerate mode.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Crystal Dynamics’ chief technology officer Gary Snethen claimed that even without optimisation work, loading and streaming in Avengers “improved by an order of magnitude” on PS5 thanks to its high-bandwidth SSD.
“When optimization is complete, loading content will be nearly instant, allowing players to seamlessly jump into missions anywhere in the game world,” he said. “And as Iron Man flies through content-rich levels, higher resolution textures and mesh will stream in instantly, maintaining the highest possible quality all the way to the horizon.”
Square Enix said it would have more details to share on Xbox Series X, Stadia, and PC specific features at a later time.
The publisher is set to hold a Marvel’s Avengers War Table digital stream on June 24 at 10 am PDT / 6pm BST, which it said will reveal new information on the game, co-op, and new gameplay content.
