Marvel’s Avengers game promises ‘years of content’

Square Enix game assembles in May 2020

Marvel’s Avengers will release for PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC on May 15, 2020.

Square Enix capped off its E3 2019 showcase by detailing Crystal Dynamics’ long-teased title.

Developed in cooperation with Eidos-Montreal, Crystal Northwest and Nixxes’ Games, Marvel’s Avengers places players in control of Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor as they play through a new, original story.

Set five years after a deadly accident during the opening of the Avengers’ west coast headquarters in San Francisco, the game will allow players to team up online and battle new evils across years of new content.

“We’ve assembled world-class developers from across the industry to bring players on an unforgettable journey,” said Crystal dynamis head of studio Ron Rosenberg.

The game features an all-star voice cast, including Troy Baker, Nolan North, Jeff Schine, Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham.

The title is expected to receive a large amount of supporting content going forward, a key tenet of the popular games as a service model.

“This is our original take on these iconic Super Heroes. Leveraging our companies’ combined experience in epic action-adventure storytelling, we’re building a universe that fans will immerse themselves in for years to come,” said Crystal Dynamics head of studio Scot Amos.

The developer also promised that all post-release heroes and regions will be free and the game will not include any loot box mechanics or pay-to-win scenarios.

PS4 players will receive some exclusive content, including early access to the game’s beta.

“It will thrill our fans and serve as a key part of Marvel’s storytelling, delivering an authentic and innovative take on our heroes as never been seen before,” said Jay Ong, Marvel executive vice president and head of games.
