Marvel Rivals breaks record following Season 1 release
Marvel Rivals has smashed its concurrent player record
Marvel Rival has broken its all-time concurrent player record following the release of its first season of content.
The hero shooter released its first season yesterday. This saw 644,269 players play the game concurrently, launching it to number 14 in Steam‘s all-time highest concurrent player counts.
This is higher than other popular titles like Apex Legends, Path of Exile 2, Helldivers 2, and GTA 5.
Marvel Rivals Season 1: Eternal Night Falls is a vampire-themed season that introduces new characters, the Fantastic Four, who will battle against the forces of Dracula.
Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play 6v6 team-based shooter played from a third-person perspective. It’s developed by a new internal team at NetEase, which has said it’s “composed of global talent who previously worked on hit franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield”.
Ahead of the release of the new season, developer NetEase published extensive patch notes for the game’s first major update.
The patch is planned to enable “a broader roster to partake in more intricate gameplay, ensuring a richer, more engaging, and diverse gaming experience for all.”
However, Team-Up abilities won’t be touched too much, as the developer believes players need more time to get used to the system and deploy it in-game before its effectiveness can be accurately judged.
“At the same time, regarding Season Bonuses and Team-Ups, we’d like to clarify that given the brief duration of Season 0 and everyone’s recent acclimatization to Marvel Rivals, we will not make extensive changes to or adjust Team-Up abilities in Season 1,” it said.
