The studio behind Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is staffing up for “a prestigious triple-A title,” according to a new job listing.

Ubisoft Milan shipped the critically acclaimed Nintendo collaboration in 2017 and it has gone on to sell several million units.

Kingdom Battle saw the worlds of the Nintendo and Ubisoft franchises combine for a turn-based strategy game featuring projectile weapons and slapstick humour.

The title famously took the spotlight at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference, with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot appearing on stage together with weapons from the game.

Guillemot remained tight lipped when asked about a potential Mario Rabbids sequel in April 2019.

He told IGN: “We can’t say much today, but we had a good relationship, so let’s see what will come.”

Ubisoft also sent out surveys in October last year asking email subscribers about their favourite characters in the Mario universe.

One page of the survey included Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi, Rosalina and Peach, and the other featured Daisy, the Koopalings, Bowser Jr., Birdo, Kamek and Bowser.

Mario + Rabbids’ creative director, Davide Soliani has said he “would love to” work on a sequel.
