A new Ubisoft game called Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope has leaked via Nintendo’s website.

A product listing for the strategy title, which is scheduled to be released in 2022, went live on Saturday ahead of the title’s expected announcement at Ubisoft Forward later today.

The game description reads: “Team up with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and their friends on a galactic journey to defeat a malevolent entity and save your Spark companions. Explore planets throughout the galaxy as you uncover mysterious secrets and compelling quests!”

Nintendo’s website also lists the following features:

  • Build your dream team with three heroes from an eclectic roster of nine.
  • Take down all new bosses, along with some familiar enemies throughout the galaxy.
  • Rescue the adorable Sparks throughout the galaxy, who provide distinct powers that will help you in battle.
  • Unleash your heroes’ skills but be strategic as you dash your enemies, team jump on your allies, and hide behind covers.

Ubisoft Milan, the studio behind Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, said it was staffing up for “a prestigious triple-A title” in a job listing last year.

The studio shipped the critically acclaimed Nintendo collaboration in 2017 and it has gone on to sell several million units.

Kingdom Battle saw the worlds of the Nintendo and Ubisoft franchises combine for a turn-based strategy game featuring projectile weapons and slapstick humour.

The title famously took the spotlight at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference, with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot appearing on stage together with weapons from the game.

Guillemot remained tight lipped when asked about a potential Mario Rabbids sequel in April 2019.

He told IGN: “We can’t say much today, but we had a good relationship, so let’s see what will come.”

Ubisoft also sent out surveys in October last year asking email subscribers about their favourite characters in the Mario universe.

One page of the survey included Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi, Rosalina and Peach, and the other featured Daisy, the Koopalings, Bowser Jr., Birdo, Kamek and Bowser.

Mario + Rabbids’ creative director, Davide Soliani, has said he “would love to” work on a sequel.
