Mario Maker 2 adds Link, speedrun mode in version 2 update
Plus new items and enemies in time for Christmas
Super Mario Maker 2’s version 2.0 update will release on December 5 and add a playable Link character.
The Legend of Zelda hero has several of his moves from the Nintendo adventure series, including the Master Sword, Bow and Bombs, and is available only in the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. style
Version 2.0 also adds a new Ninji Speedruns mode, which has players racing for the fastest time on courses created by Nintendo.
Other players’ Ninji Ghosts will run alongside players as they compete against other players of “similar performance level.”
Each Ninji Speedrun event will run for about one week, with new courses distributed periodically. During the event, players will be ranked by their play time in that course and can collect new stamps and Mii costumes.
The 2.0 update also adds new enemies and items such as Spike, Pokey, the Frozen Coin, P Block and Dash Block.
Version. 2.0 is the latest major update for Mario Maker 2, following a patch in October which enabled the much-requested online multiplayer with friends.
Another update doubled the number of custom courses players could upload in the game, from 32 to 64 courses per user.
According to NPD Group, Super Mario Maker 2 set a new record high for launch month sales of a Mario Maker title, surpassing both the September 2015 release of Super Mario Maker and the December 2016 release of Super Mario Maker 3DS.
Super Mario Maker 2 has sold 3.93 million copies since it released in June, according to Nintendo.
