Mario Kart Tour’s Pauline, in-game currency detailed in new video
Mobile racer is out September 25
Nintendo has revealed more details on its mobile racer, Mario Kart Tour, ahead of its release on iOS and Android on September 25.
In a new video, Nintendo confirms that the game’s first “tour” track will be based on New York City, with players able to unlock a special Musician Mario variant during the two-week event.
The video also confirms the inclusion of a new series racer, Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey, who will also be available during the first tour event.
Rubies are confirmed as the currency in the game, which can be earned by completing races or “other sources,” (presumably micro-transactions) according to Nintendo.
The game will also include “The Pipe,” a loot box-style mechanic which will unlock karts, gliders and characters.
Developed by Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp creator DeNA, Mario Kart Tour had a closed Android beta test in Japan and North America earlier this year.
The game is played vertically. Players control their kart by swiping on the touch screen, with acceleration handled automatically.
Mario Kart Tour includes new courses, fresh takes on classic courses and city courses inspired by real-world locations like New York, Tokyo and Paris.
