Mario Kart Tour’s next event is the Ice Tour
Two new drivers teased for event commencing in mid-January
Mario Kart Tour’s next event will be the Ice Tour, developer DeNA has announced.
It starts on January 14 at 10pm PT (Jan 15 at 1am ET / 6am UK) and will introduce at least two new drivers to the game.
The mobile racer’s tours are fortnightly events which add a new course and unlockable content, often based on a real-world location such as London, Tokyo and Paris.
The game’s first tour event was based on New York City, with players able to unlock Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey, plus a New York-themed kart and glider.
The ongoing New Year Tour sees all previously event-exclusive drivers, karts and gliders available in the game’s gacha-like Pipe mechanic, with slightly boosted appearance rates (although still less than 1%).
Mario Kart Tour launched in September 2019 and reportedly surpassed 123 million downloads in its first month, making it by far Nintendo’s most successful mobile game launch in terms of installs.
DeNA ran a Mario Kart Tour multiplayer beta test over the Christmas period, which was only accessible to Gold Pass subscribers.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently told investors Mario Kart Tour earnings were off to a good start.
