Mario Kart Tour Time Trials announced for Halloween
Plus Nintendo details event-exclusive Spotlight racers
Mario Kart Tour will add a Time Trials mode during its upcoming Halloween event, which begins on October 22 at 11:00pm PT (or 7am October 23 in the UK).
The new mode is among a selection of Halloween-themed content set to be added during the two-week event, alongside at least six new characters, three new courses and fresh karts and gliders.
In a new video published on Monday, Nintendo confirmed that Luigi, King Boo, Baby Luigi and Waluigi characters will be added as standard drivers, which means they’ll always be available to unlock.
Spotlight characters for the Halloween tour are Rosalina (Halloween) and King Boo (Luigi’s MansIon). Spotlight items are event exclusive and guaranteed to appear within 100 uses of The Pipe, the game’s gacha-style content unlocking system.
The Halloween tour will also add tour-specific karts and gliders, plus new courses Luigi’s Mansion (DS), Waluigi Pinball (DS) and Ghost Valley (SNES).
Mario Kart Tour Halloween event
Mario Kart Tour’s tours are fortnightly events which add new courses and unlockable content, often based on a real world location such as London, Tokyo or Paris.
The game’s first tour event was based on New York City, with players able to unlock Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey, a New York-themed kart and a New York-themed glider which were only available during the two-week event.
Mario Kart Tour’s Tokyo event went live on October 9, adding 14 new characters, more than five new courses and a significant number of new karts and gliders.
Mario Kart Tour launched on September 25 and broke records with 90 million downloads in its first week, although the feat was soon surpassed by Call of Duty Mobile, which achieved 100 million week one downloads following its October 1 release.
Mario Kart Tour is expected to introduce online multiplayer in a future update.
