Mario Kart Tour now available for free on iOS and Android
Play from 1am PT as game servers go live
Mario Kart Tour is now available for download for free on iOS and Android.
Servers for the mobile racer will go live at around 1am PT/10am CEST on Wednesday, September 25, Nintendo confirmed, from which point users will be able to play the game.
The game’s first “Tour” event is based on New York City, with players able to unlock a special Musician Mario variant and Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey, who will only be available during the two-week event.
Rubies are confirmed as the currency in the game, which can be earned by completing races or “other sources.”
The game will also include “The Pipe,” a loot box-style mechanic which will unlock karts, gliders and characters.
Developed by Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp creator DeNA, Mario Kart Tour had a closed Android beta test in Japan and North America earlier this year.
The game is played vertically. Players control their kart by swiping on the touch screen, with acceleration handled automatically.
Mario Kart Tour includes new courses, fresh takes on classic courses and city courses inspired by real-world locations like New York, Tokyo and Paris.
