Nintendo appears to have revealed Switch 2’s first game
The Switch 2 reveal trailer featured what appears to be Mario Kart 9

Nintendo showcased what appears to be a new Mario Kart game during its Nintendo Switch 2 reveal on Thursday, with a new instalment seemingly set for its next console.
The footage appeared on-screen during the first look at Switch 2, with no clarification on what it was showing. However, the track shown in the footage is not included in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Additionally, some of the character models are clearly different. Donkey Kong, in particular, sports a radically different design from the last Mario Kart game.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is by far Switch’s best-selling game, with 64 million sales as of September 2024, so it makes sense that a successor would be present for the launch of its next console.
That puts it ahead of Animal Crossing: New Horizons (46m), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (35m), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (32m) and Super Mario Odyssey (28m).

Nintendo has yet to officially confirm a release date or price for Switch 2, or indeed any software titles. However, a Nintendo Direct focusing on the Switch 2 has been confirmed for April 2.
Nintendo has also now confirmed that players will be able to play Switch 2 in advance at a series of events to be held globally. The Switch 2 Trial Event will start in New York and Paris on April 4, and will continue until the end of May, spanning various locations in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia.
