Major Gran Turismo 7 update adds new cars, snow circuit and 4-player split screen

Polyphony Digital has revealed what it’s billing as Gran Turismo 7’s “largest” update since the game’s release last year.

As expected, the Spec II Update 1.40 will introduce seven new cars when it launches today at 11pm PST (November 2 at 6am GMT), plus the Lake Louise snow circuit, which includes three track layouts.

The patch will also add a four-player split-screen Couch Mode, and Quick Race with Sophy (AI driver agent) integration, both of which will be available exclusively on PS5.

Other new features, which are detailed in full on the PlayStation Blog, include 50 Challenges added to Licenses, fresh World Circuits events, and additional Café / Extra Menus.

The seven new cars included in the update are:

  • Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi ‘68
  • Dodge Charger SRT Demon ‘18
  • Lexus LFA ‘10
  • Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II ‘91
  • NISMO 400R ‘95
  • Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) ‘22
  • Tesla Model 3 Performance ‘23

Gran Turismo 7 was released for PS4 and PS5 in March 2022. It was also made available as a PlayStation VR2 launch title in February 2023, as a free upgrade for existing owners.

Last December, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi said that a PC version of Gran Turismo 7 wasn’t in development, although he hadn’t ruled out releasing one at some point.

The Gran Turismo franchise launched in 1997 and had topped 90 million sales as of November 2022, according to Sony.
