Mafia game breaks social media silence ahead of expected announcement
Take-Two previously suggested Hanger 13 would reveal a game this year
Publisher 2K could be preparing a Mafia-related announcement, based on new social media activity.
On Sunday, the official Mafia Twitter profile published its first tweet in nearly two years, posting a single word: “Family”.
The social media activity could be related to ‘definitive editions’ of Mafia 2 and 3, which were listed on the website for the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee in April with PS4, Xbox One and PC named as platforms.
The last game in the action-adventure series was 2016’s Mafia 3, developed by new studio Hanger 13.
In February 2K parent Take-Two said to expect announcements regarding games from Hanger 13 and its 31st Union studio “in the coming months.”
“As I said before, our pipeline is very diverse and is very large and we are going to share with you more about that in the coming months,” CEO Strauss Zelnick said during an earnings call.
“So you can certainly expect that there will be games coming out of the studios. I wish I could tell you more about them, but stay tuned, because they are very exciting and we are thrilled to be in business with both of those – with both of those folks in their entire teams, so stay tuned.”
