Last week’s PS5 State of Play had the most concurrent viewers ever, it’s claimed
More than 2 million players were watching Sony’s latest presentation at one point
Last week’s State of Play presentation from Sony had more concurrent viewers than any State of Play before it, a new report claims.
According to Streams Charts, the February 12 presentation had an average of 1.8 million viewers when all streams and co-streams are taken into account.
The report says that at its peak, the viewer count hit 2.18 million concurrent viewers, which it claims is the first time a State of Play has ever broken the 2 million mark.
While the main feed on the PlayStation channel saw a peak of 656,000 concurrent viewers, Streams Charts says it’s the number of co-streamers also showing the presentation that led to the record-breaking viewership.
Its statistics say that last week’s State of Play was the first time more than 1,000 YouTube Live and Twitch channels co-streamed the State of Play, many of whom were streamers reacting to it live.
Popular streamers such as Asmongold, xQc, HasanAbi and Maximillian_DOOD contributed to the total figure, as did other media publications also co-streaming the feed.
Streams Charts points out that while the vast majority of these 1,000 channels were reaching fewer than 1,000 viewers each, combined they all contributed to the breaking of the 2 million milestone.
Last week’s State of Play featured a number of new game announcements, as well as new information on previously announced games.
The biggest surprise was the reveal of Saros, the next game from Returnal studio Housemarque, although this was only represented by a cinematic trailer.
Also featured in the show were the Borderlands 4 release date, a remastered version of Days Gone and a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
