Katy Perry’s Pokémon 25th anniversary music video is out now

Electric sees Pikachu joining Perry as she looks back at her early days

The much-hyped Katy Perry song collaboration with Pokémon has been released.

Electric celebrates the 25th anniversary of Pokémon with a special music video featuring Pikachu and Pichu.

The video shows Perry teaming up with Pikachu as the two watch Perry in her younger years. Present-day Perry manipulates a few things in past Perry’s life to give her the nudge needed to make sure her dream as a singer comes true.

The song will be part of a 14-track Pokémon digital album released by Universal Music’s Capitol Records, which will feature songs from other artists like Post Malone and J Balvin.

Post Malone held a virtual concert in February as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations.

“The song’s themes – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters,” said Perry in a statement.

“Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”

Perry was one of the ambassadors chosen to represent Pokémon during its 25th anniversary celebrations.

“It is an honour to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world,” she said in January.
