Jam City is laying off 10% of its employees
85 members of staff impacted by cuts at the mobile game studio
Mobile game developer Jam City is laying off 10% of its workforce.
The move will impact around 85 members of staff, a representative for the company confirmed to Polygon reporter Nicole Carpenter.
Los Angeles-based Jam City is the company behind mobile games including Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, DC Heroes and Villains, Disney Frozen Adventures, Jurassic World Alive, Cookie Jam and Panda Pop.
It has studios and staff located in LA, Burbank, Cedar Falls, Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, and, internationally, in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Montreal, and Toronto.
“After a challenging 2023, industry analysts predicted an upward trend for gaming in 2024. While we have seen moderate improvements in some areas, the overall upward trend has not materialized as expected,” Jam City CEO Josh Yguado reportedly said in an email to staff.
“Projections indicate these conditions will continue for some time, with improvements not expected until the second half of 2025.”
Jam previously laid off 17% of its employees, or around 200 people, in 2022.
Game developer Farhan Noor, who has been tracking job cuts dating back to the start of 2022 on videogameslayoffs.com, estimates that around 10,500 games industry employees were laid off last year.
Following news of the Jam City layoffs, it’s estimated that 11,400 games industry jobs have been lost so far this year.
