It Takes Two is set to be adapted for film and television.
Developer Hazelight has teamed up with dj2 Entertainment, the production company behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films, to bring It Takes Two to a wider audience, Variety reports.
Published by EA in March 2021, It Takes Two is a co-op adventure which has sold over three million copies and won multiple high-profile awards.
It tells the story of a husband and wife seemingly headed for divorce, who are forced to work together to escape a fantastical world after being transformed by magic into living dolls.
Sonic movie writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller will adapt the game for film and TV.
“Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy co-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television,” said Hazelight founder and creative director Josef Fares.
It Takes Two won three prizes at last month’s Game Awards 2021. In addition to the coveted Game of the Year award, it took home the Best Multiplayer and Best Family Game prizes.
dj2 is also currently readying a Tomb Raider anime series for Netflix, as well as adaptations of games including Life Is Strange, Disco Elysium, Sleeping Dogs and Little Nightmares.
