It looks like the original Resident Evil could be re-released for PC

Capcom looks set to re-release the original 1996 version of Resident Evil for modern platforms.

That’s according to a rating by Europe’s PEGI, which indicates that the original game has been cleared for release on PC this week.

Although it was released on PC in 1996, the original Resident Evil is not widely available for purchase on modern storefronts. On Steam, currently none of the original RE games are available to buy.

On PlayStation, the remixed Director’s Cut version of the game is available via the PlayStation Plus classics library.

Capcom has released three commercially successful Resident Evil remakes in the past five years. In December, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo confirmed that it intends to release more.

“We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well,” he said. “Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.

“What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”
