It looks like Microsoft is updating Xbox Series X’s game box designs
Best Buy listings suggest a redesign could be on the way
Retail listings suggest Microsoft could be planning to update the design for Xbox Series X’s game boxes.
Best Buy is currently carrying listings for at least two upcoming Xbox games featuring a new box art; Halo Infinite and Flight Simulator.
It was also reportedly carrying one for Forza Horizon 5, as shown in the comparison image at the bottom of this article, which was originally posted on the Xbox News Twitter.
While the Forza Horizon 5 physical version seemingly cannot be found listed online, a digital version of the game does also include the updated design.
The updated design removes the word ‘Xbox’ from the existing box art template and moves the Xbox logo from the top centre of the box to the top left. The game’s platforms are also listed on a white background rather than on a black one.
It’s unclear if the updated design has been leaked by Best Buy or is merely an error, but we’ve asked Microsoft for comment.
Microsoft’s game boxes have been criticised in the recent past for their busy design, which includes multiple logos and call outs for 4K, Smart Delivery, Xbox Series X enhancements and more.
Before Series X’s launch last November, the platform holder tweaked the box designs based on fan feedback, removing an overly large badge for Series X enhancement.
Microsoft held the Xbox and Bethesda games showcase on Sunday, which featured 27 titles headed to Xbox Game Pass on the day of release.
During the event, Microsoft confirmed that open-world racer Forza Horizon 5 will take place in Mexico and be released on November 9, 2021.
Microsoft also announced that Flight Simulator will be released for Xbox Series X/S on July 27, 2021 and revealed plans for a Top Gun expansion coming later this year.
And it said Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer component will launch alongside its campaign during the 2021 holiday season.
