Hotel Barcelona has been delayed to next year
The collaboration between Swery65 and Suda51 is now targeting “early 2025”
Hotel Barcelona’s target release window has been delayed to “early 2025”, White Owls CEO Hidetaka Suehiro has confirmed.
The collaboration between Deadly Premonition creator Suehiro’s development studio and No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda was previously expected to be released this year.
“Right now, we’re bug checking the game and we want to keep polishing it and making it better”, Swery told Gamereactor. “But ideally, we want to release the game in early 2025”.
Hotel Barcelona is a 2.5D action game that parodies slasher films, written and directed by Suehiro from an original idea by Suda. It will be released simultaneously for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC via Steam.
It sees players step into the shoes of Justine, a federal marshal with a serial killer living inside of her. Players have to fight through seven stages, each inspired by a different sub-genre of horror.
VGC got a chance to try out a level based on Friday the 13th at Japanese indie game festival BitSummit in July.
“While the game initially appears to be a straightforward hack and slash affair, the gimmick comes when you die and start the stage again,” we wrote.
“On your second playthrough, your previous playthrough appears as a sort of ghost and all the actions you performed are carried out again as you run alongside them. In this way, if you’re lucky enough (or skilful enough, I suppose) your spectre can damage enemies or draw their attention away from you.”
