The much-anticipated follow-up was tentatively due in the first half of 2023
Team Cherry has officially delayed its much-anticipated Metroidvania sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, from the first half of this year.
Although it already seemed incredibly unlikely the game would arrive during the final weeks of the window, Team Cherry representative Matthew Griffin made official on Twitter that the game will now be arriving at a later date.
“Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong,” he wrote. “We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.
“Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”
The game, which is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Switch and Xbox Game Pass, was announced in February 2019, and little has been shown of its since, leading to much anticipation among fans.
According to its developer, Silksong will feature a brand new kingdom, over 150 different enemies and a Silk Soul mode, a new difficulty setting that vastly changes the game after the first playthrough.
Players control Hornet, a “princess-protector of Hallownest”, and adventure through a kingdom “ruled by silk and song”.
“Captured and brought to this unfamiliar world, Hornet must battle foes and solve mysteries as she ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom’s peak,” the game’s official blurb reads.
“As the lethal hunter Hornet, journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover ancient secrets tied to your nature and your past.”
