Hogwarts Legacy sequel will tie in with the new Harry Potter HBO series
Warner says Hogwarts Legacy recently topped 30 million sales
Warner Bros. Discovery has provided an update on its plans for a sequel to last year’s smash hit Hogwarts Legacy.
“Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels said at Bank of America conference in September.
And David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, echoed that language in a new interview with Variety.
He said Warner Bros. Games is working on a Hogwarts Legacy follow-up, which he described as a “very big priority” for the company’s top executives.
Haddad said the sequel will share some big picture storytelling elements with Warner Bros. Television’s upcoming Harry Potter series, which is targeted to hit HBO in 2026.
“The rest of the company was very curious about what we helped to unlock with Hogwarts Legacy last year,” he said.
Released in February 2023, the Harry Potter spin-off RPG was last year’s best-selling game ahead of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Warner also told Variety that Hogwarts Legacy had surpassed 30 million sales as of October 2024.
In June, it was claimed that Rocksteady Studios was helping develop an unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Director’s Cut.
