Hideo Kojima doesn’t like the Director’s Cut title for Death Stranding PS5

Hideo Kojima has stated that he’s not a fan of calling the upcoming PS5 version of Death Stranding the ‘Director’s Cut’.

Kojima, who wrote, designed, directed and produced the game, took to Twitter to explain that he didn’t necessarily agree with the Director’s Cut branding.

According to Kojima, when a movie is called a Director’s Cut it means the director’s original vision was compromised somehow, and the Director’s Cut is that original vision.

But he argues that the original Death Stranding was his vision, and the Director’s Cut is not about restoring things that were removed, but adding new things on top of it, and that it should maybe be called Director’s Plus instead.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut was announced during Summer Games Fest Kickoff Live last month.

As well as advanced visuals, the game will include a number of new features that weren’t in the PS4 version.

These include new combat mechanics, designed to make battling enemies more enjoyable. Melee attacks have been upgraded, a new ‘maser gun’ can be acquired and players can find mounted machine guns.

There’s also a new Firing Range area where players can practice their marksmanship skills in training missions.

The game also adds new support tools designed to aid players during delivery sections, including a cargo catapult that lets players fire cargo long distances, a new support skeleton, a ‘buddy bot’ that can carry players when they’re tired and a portable jump ramp that can be placed down to let players drive over large gaps.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut will be released on PS5 on September 24. It will retail for $49.99 / €49.99, but players with the standard PS4 version can instead pay $10 / €10 to upgrade.
