Here’s the first look at Puma’s Animal Crossing footwear
Sportswear firm is set to release sneakers and clothing based on the Nintendo series
Sportswear firm Puma is set to collaborate with Nintendo on a line of Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed items.
Puma teased the Animal Crossing line on its social media channels on Thursday, but now the first look at actual items has been published, via Sneaker Freaker.
According to the site, Puma is set to release three different sets of Animal Crossing sneakers, the first of which – the special edition Wild Rider – is pictured on this page, alongside a New Horizons hoodie.
“Referencing the family-friendly Nintendo favourite, the Wild Rider is reimagined with natural colours and authentic graphics from the game,” the description reads. “The suede panels on the toe box and heel add a touch of luxe, while a white PUMA stripe adds some subtle branding to the mix.”
Nintendo previously collaborated with Puma on a line of special edition Super Mario 35th anniversary items, including sneakers which retailed for $125.
The company has increasingly leveraged its IP with various branding deals over the past several years. This includes an Animal Crossing clothing line at Uniqlo and a special edition soundtrack package.
Last month Nintendo reassured fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons that more free content is in development.
Nintendo released New Horizons’ first update in three months on July 29, adding weekly fireworks shows and new seasonal items.
The three-month wait for the new update had led to concerns from some players that support for the game was slowing down, but Nintendo’s message appears to be an attempt to assuage these concerns.
“More free content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently in development for later this year,” it said. “More information will be shared in the future, so please stay tuned. Thank you for you support and patience.”
