Arrowhead Game Studios has quietly introduced flying bugs to Helldivers 2.
While they aren’t documented in the game’s latest patch notes, players are now encountering large bat-like creatures called Shriekers in some missions.
The new bug type, which emits high-pitched screeches as they divebomb players and slash at them with their talons, are only currently found in maps where a Shrieker Lair is one of the side objectives, Windows Central reports.
Oh weird, there are three mushrooms. Oh hello there, Cock Rock. OH SWEET LIBERTY! WHAT ARE THOSE!??

While players are sharing footage of the new enemy type and discussing Shriekers online, Arrowhead is refusing to officially acknowledge their existence yet.
“I’ve heard rumors of flying bugs in @helldivers 2. I want to officially refute such preposterous claims,” Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt said tongue in cheek. “Everyone knows that ‘Bugs can’t fly’. And I’m not alone in thinking this.
“The Ministry of Truth agrees that this is propaganda from bug sympathizers that want to brainwash good people,” the game’s creative director added.
The arrival of Shriekers comes hot on the heels of the Helldivers 2 community unlocking heavily armoured mechs, which can fire a chaingun and a rocket launcher.
Helldivers 2’s latest premium Warbond, Cutting Edge, will be released for PS5 and PC on March 14.
“This unique anti-alien cache includes explosive weapons, prototype armour, capes and player cards, emotes, and utility boosters for this month and beyond,” according to Arrowhead.
