Helldivers 2 is USA’s best-selling game of the year so far, with nearly 60% of sales on PC
The game’s launch month dollar sales are Sony’s 7th highest ever in the US
Helldivers 2 was the best-selling game of February in the US and the best-selling game so far this year.
As shared on X by Mat Piscatella of Circana (formerly NPD), the co-op shooter took the top spot in the best-selling premium games, best-selling PlayStation games and most-played on Steam charts for the month.
Despite its February 8 release date, it also topped the charts for the best-selling premium games in the US for the year to date, taking both January and February sales into account.
Piscatella also pointed out that more copies of Helldivers 2 were sold on Steam than PS5, with PC sales accounting for nearly 60% of copies sold.
Helldivers’ combined PS5 and PC sales mean its total dollar sales for its launch month were “the 7th-highest total ever achieved by a Sony-published title in the US”, according to Circana.
The charts also showed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was the second best-selling game of February, making it the fourth best-selling game of the year (behind Helldivers 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Tekken 8).
Earlier this week it was reported that Helldivers 2 was also Europe’s best-selling game for February, with PC sales accounting for 56% of the game’s sales in that region.
While Sony has not released official sales figures for Helldivers 2, the game has regularly exceeded 430,000 concurrent players on Steam, per SteamDB.
According to TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, Helldivers 2 has likely sold more than 8 million copies since its release last month. “We believe the game has performed well ahead of expectations,” he wrote in a note this month.
The game’s breakout success has led to speculation that its developer, Stockholm-based Arrowhead Game Studio, could be acquired by PlayStation – something the studio itself has denied.
