Halo Infinite is getting a third-person mode
The new viewpoint is coming to the game next month
Halo Infinite is set to get a third-person mode next month.
The news was announced during the 2024 Halo World Championship in Seattle, during a discussion on the game’s development.
It was revealed that the game will be receiving an update in November which adds the ability to play the game from an over-the-shoulder viewpoint, for the first time in the Halo series.
Third-person controls will be “supported at a mode level”, senior community manager John ‘Unyshek’ Junyszek said. This means players won’t be able to manually switch between first-person and third-person mode – it will be set for them.
The third-person view will also be added to Forge mode allowing creators to switch individual players (or all players) between first- and third-person perspectives as desired.
“It’s a fun way to play, you have more awareness, you get to see your Spartan, it’s super cool,” Junyszek said.
“Internally people have been loving it and I’m excited for everyone to get their hands on it later this year.”
Skybox Labs senior software engineer Colin Cove added: “The team did a lot of work on aiming, making sure that things were accurate.”
“The camera position has changed so dramatically,” Junyszek explained. “Normally the camera’s in your head, and wherever you’re looking, you’re shooting.
“Now with the third-person camera, where your camera is behind you, you have to account for two different kinds of inputs on our aiming system and it took a lot of work to make that happen.”
