Hades is now the highest-rated game on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 to date
Supergiant’s roguelike has a higher Metacritic score than any other game on either console
Supergiant Games’ critically acclaimed title Hades is now the highest rated game on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
The roguelike dungeon crawler was originally released for PC and Switch in September 2020 to great praise.
It went on to win Game of the Year at this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards, as well as Best Design and Best Audio.
Hades was released on Xbox and PlayStation consoles on August 13, and a week later the game is now the highest rated title on Series X/S and PS5, based on review aggregation site Metacritic, as noted by Twisted Voxel.
The PlayStation 5 version currently has a Metacritic score of 93, which puts it above the likes of Demon’s Souls (92), Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (90) and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (89).
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X/S version sits at 94 on Metacritic, putting it ahead of Microsoft Flight Simulator (90), It Takes Two (89) and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (89).
The Switch version is in joint fourth place with a Metacritic score of 93. Of the thousands of games released for the Switch in the past four and a half years, the only three games to be scored higher are Super Mario Odyssey (97), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (97) and The House in Fata Morgana (98).
Hades developer Supergiant was named VGC’s Studio of the Year for 2020.
“Hades has laid groundwork that we hope companies follow for years to come,” wrote Jordan Middler. “It’s certainly not the first game to come from early access and be a success story, but it’s unique in the sense that there’s no caveat.
“Supergiant made a game as transparently as possible, while protecting their staff and releasing in the most difficult year for game development in recent memory.”
