GTA Trilogy’s first major patch fixes over 50 issues, including ‘new’ rain effects
Update targets a range of issues across GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas
Rockstar Games has deployed the first major update for GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition, after admitting that the much-criticised remasters “did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality”.
The remaster collection released last week with a significant number of technical issues, as well as “unintended” documents within its game files such as unlicensed music and developer notes.
In a statement published on Friday, Rockstar apologised to fans for the state of the release game and promised a series of updates, the first of which is out now and fixes over 50 issues (see the patch notes at the bottom of this story).
That includes a fix for the remasters’ much-criticised rain effects, but only in San Andreas.
Players posted footage of the updated effect on Saturday, which appeared to show that, while its brightness has been tuned, it still has issues with layering over water:

It’s also claimed that a supposed fix for an issue where a bridge in San Andreas’ Flint County is invisible has not actually fixed the issue.
In its new statement, Rockstar said it would be adding the original versions of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas back to its PC store and giving them away for free to Definitive Edition owners.
Rockstar temporarily pulled the game from its PC store last week, which meant that owners were unable to play the games on their release date.
“Once again, we’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we work through these updates to ensure these games meet everyone’s justifiably high standards,” Rockstar said.
