GTA 6: Rockstar is reportedly planning Roblox/Fortnite-style user-generated content

Rockstar has reportedly met with top Roblox and Fortnite creators about the potential to build custom game experiences inside GTA 6.

That’s according to a new report from Digiday, which cites three industry insiders with knowledge of the meetings. It’s claimed that Rockstar is planning to allow creators to modify GTA 6’s game environment and assets to bring their own intellectual property into its sandbox.

Creators in other user-generated game platforms, such as Fortnite and Roblox, can generate revenue by receiving a portion of their virtual item sales.

Notably, in 2023 Rockstar acquired CFX.RE, the group behind some of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2’s most popular modding tools.

GTA 5 roleplaying exploded in popularity in recent years. The mod, which sees players use the framework of GTA to create brand new game modes, is monetized by charging users subscription fees to participate.

According to Digiday, Rockstar’s recent conversations with content creators have remained “relatively open-ended”.

“It’s unclear exactly how creators would benefit from bringing their IP and audiences into GTA 6, beyond the exposure that would come from having a presence inside one of the world’s most popular gaming properties,” it says.

Earlier this month, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two claimed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track to release later this year. During an investor presentation discussing its Q3 earnings for the financial year 2025, the publisher confirmed that the game was still listed as “launching Fall of Calendar 2025”.

Last month Bloomberg claimed that rival game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for next Fall, because of GTA 6’s planned release.

They want to see if GTA 6 will make its deadline or be delayed until 2026, with the goal being to put significant distance between the release of their own games and Rockstar’s, it’s claimed.
