GTA 5 has surpassed 200 million copies sold, according to Take Two
The game makes up almost half of the franchise’s all-time sales
Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold approximately 200 million copies.
That’s according to publisher Take-Two, revealing the figure ahead of the company’s earnings call on Thursday.
The game, which was originally released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, was later rereleased on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and then later on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
According to previous figures, the game had shipped 180 million units as of March 2023, up from 175 million three months earlier. The game continues to consistently appear on best-seller lists in the decade since its original release.
While the game’s single-player mode didn’t receive any DLC, the hugely popular Grand Theft Auto Online has seen a steady stream of content since its inception.
200 million sales mean the game remains the second best-selling game of all time, behind Minecraft, which has sold around 300m copies across all formats, according to its creator.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold close to half a billion units in its history, with GTA 5 making up almost half of that.
Also announced ahead of the call is the news that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in fall 2025 according to Take Two.
