Grid release delayed ‘to give game added exposure’

Codemasters has delayed the Grid release date from September 13 to October 11, 2019.

Players who purchase the Ultimate Edition of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC racer will get three days’ early access beginning on October 8.

In a blog post explaining the move, Codemasters community manager Chris Groves said the delay would give the company more time to build awareness of the game pre-release.

“With Grid receiving multiple nominations and awards at this year’s E3 event in Los Angeles, including being named ‘Best Racing Game’ by GameInformer and DualShockers, the change has been made to give added exposure to a game we’re hugely excited about,” he said.

Groves also teased “more major news coming in the next couple of days”.

Revealed in May, the fourth game in the Grid series features race circuits spanning four continents and cars across GT, touring, stock, muscle and super-modified types. Races include circuit, street racing, ovals, hot laps, point-to-point and world time attack.

Two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso is acting as race consultant and appears in-game.

Grid will also be a Google Stadia launch game this November.
