Grand Theft Auto V has shipped over 150 million copies, according to Take-Two
Rockstar’s game has reached a significant new milestone
Grand Theft Auto V has now sold-in (shipped) over 150 million copies, according to Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two.
That’s up from 145 million units reported by the publisher in May 2021.
The updated figure was released as part of Take Two’s 2022 Q1 earnings results on Monday.
Originally released in September 2013, the game reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any entertainment release in history, according to Take-Two.
It is also the best-selling game of the decade in the US, in both unit and dollar sales, based on data from research firm the NPD Group.
GTA V and GTA Online, including a standalone version of the online game, will be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 11, 2021.
Commenting on the next-gen versions of GTA V in March, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said he was confident the remaster would deliver a strong experience for players.
“We’ve done great with the Mafia series, for example, and Grand Theft Auto [V] is now heading into its third generation which is incredible,” he said.
“It was a standard-bearer when it was launched, it continued to be the standard-bearer in the second generation, we’ll see how Grand Theft Auto does in the next generation. Obviously, I’m confident that Rockstar is going to deliver just a great experience, but you can’t do that if you’re just doing a simple port.”
Grand Theft Auto 6 could still be four years away from release and feature an expanding map set in Vice City, it was claimed in July.
