Gran Turismo 7’s boss says he’s ‘considering and looking into’ a PC port

But Yamauchi claims bringing the title’s tech to PC won’t be easy

Gran Turismo 7’s boss says he’s ‘considering and looking into’ a PC port

Gran Turismo series lead Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed developer Polyphony Digital is “looking into… and considering” a PC port of the latest instalment.

PlayStation is in the middle of a significant push into PC gaming, and since Gran Turismo 7’s release earlier this year it’s added to its PC library with ports of Sackboy, Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection, Spider-Man and its sequel Miles Morales.

Asked by GTPlanet if a PC version of GT7 would be something he’d consider, Yamauchi replied: “Yes, I do think so”.

The Polyphony CEO went on the claim that the process of bringing the title – which was released for PS5 and PS4 in March – to PC would not be an easy process.

“Gran Turismo is a very finely tuned title,” he added. “There are not many platforms which could run the game in 4K/60p natively, so one way we make that possible is to narrow down the platform. It’s not a very easy subject, but of course, we are looking into it and considering it.”

In a corporate report published in 2020, Sony first said it would explore bringing more PlayStation exclusives to PC, following Horizon Zero Dawn’s release on the platform.

Then early last year SIE’s president confirmed PlayStation would bring “a whole slate” of games to PC.

Speaking to GQ, SIE boss Jim Ryan said that the opportunity to bring PlayStation’s IPs to a wider audience, as well as an easier port process, meant that making more games for PC was now “a fairly straightforward decision” for the company.

PlayStation acquired Nixxes Software, which is best known for its work on the PC versions of Square Enix properties including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman and Thief, to help it bring its games to the platform.
