Google announces Apple Arcade rival, Play Pass

Android subscription service offers ‘unlocked access’ to 350 apps and games

Google has announced Play Pass, its app and game subscription service for Android.

Play Pass gives subscribers access to 350 apps and games that are “completely unlocked” and free of ads, in-app purchases and upfront payments, for $4.99 a month.

Play Pass is coming to Android devices in the U.S. this week, Google announced on Monday, with access coming to additional countries at a later date.

Google says Play Pass includes games such as Terraria, Monument Valley, Risk, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, LIMBO, Lichtspeer, Mini Metro, Old Man’s Journey and more.

Users can get started with a 10-day free trial and for a limited time, subscribe to Play Pass for $1.99/month for their first twelve months.

Apple launched its own game subscription service, Apple Arcade, earlier this month.

Apple has confirmed plans to release over 100 “new and exclusive games”for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV service, which costs users $4.99/£4.99 a month.

Google did not mention plans for exclusive content in Monday’s announcement.
