Sony was planning to reveal God of War Ragnarök special editions today, it’s claimed
But a release date announcement is said to have been delayed at short notice
Sony Interactive Entertainment was reportedly due to reveal God of War Ragnarök special editions today, before a last-minute change of plan.
Special editions of the game and its release date were due to be announced in a PlayStation Blog post with an accompanying trailer, according to writer Tom Henderson, reporting for eXputer.
It’s believed the blog post would also have provided assurances that development was progressing well, and the promise of a gameplay reveal at a future date.
Henderson claims Sony decided to delay the announcement on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Sony Santa Monica creative director Cory Barlog asked fans to “please, be patient” for news on the eagerly anticipated sequel.
Echoing similar comments he made in April, Barlog added: “I promise things will be shared at the earliest possible moment they can be.”
He also said that were it up to him, he’d share all the information about the game when he found out about it, “but it is not up to me”.
Following his comments, Barlog was inundated with messages from fans seeking further information on the game.
In one notable exchange, he said God of War Ragnarök hasn’t been delayed again, which would mean it’s still on track to be released this year.
God of War Ragnarök was originally scheduled for release in 2021, but last June Santa Monica Studio said it had been delayed 2022 to help the studio deliver “a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing” of its team.
