Ghost of Tsushima has beaten Horizon’s PS4 launch record
Sucker Punch’s title is now the fastest-selling original IP from PlayStation
Ghost of Tsushima has broken PlayStation’s first-party PS4 launch record.
The Sucker Punch title sold through more than 2.4 million copies globally in its first three days of sales, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on Friday.
The open-world exclusive beat the record previously held by 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, which took two weeks to sell through 2.6m units.
However, Tsushima was some ways from matching the records set by established franchises such as The Last of Us Part 2, which sold over four million copies in three days. God of War and Spider-Man each sold more than three million copies in the same timespan.
Earlier this week Ghost of Tsushima recorded the best launch week sales of any first-party PlayStation 4 game in Japan.
It sold 221,915 copies in its first week, comfortably surpassing the record previously held by Death Stranding, Famitsu reported.
Sucker Punch’s game is only the third Western-developed game to receive a perfect 40/40 score from Japan’s Famitsu magazine (the others were Grand Theft Auto V and Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim).
In VGC’s Ghost of Tsushima review, our critic said the “Kurosawa homage forges its own identity, but is weighed down by the genre’s more perfunctory tropes”.
The game is available to purchase at Amazon, Best Buy and Game, among other retailers.
