miHoYo’s technical director also discusses the next-gen improvements

miHoYo has released new two new Genshin Impact videos showcasing the upcoming PlayStation 5 version of the game.

The first (above) features almost eight minutes of gameplay footage, showcasing enhanced visuals and improved loading times, among other features.

In the second video (below), miHoYo’s technical director Zhenzhong Yi elaborates on the improvements made to the game on PS5, which he says are “only scratching the surface” of what’s possible on Sony’s next-gen console.

Yi says miHoYo created a new graphics library and a customised file-loading system that gives the studio “much more potential to elevate the visual quality and game performance” in future updates.

“The all-new graphics library allows us to pack even more details into the game world. Look closely at your surroundings and the high-res texture will tell you a unique story in every tiny detail. Raise your eyes to the horizon and the enhanced level of detail distance will bring you an impressive view of landmarks near and far.

“Even better, the PlayStation 5 allows you to run all these details in native 4K resolution. If you have an HDR display, with our HDR support, you can enjoy an even more vibrant look at the world.

“Genshin Impact features massive and changing landscapes,” Yi continues. “So when you traverse the open-world and domains, faster loading will make your adventure so much smoother.

“With the PlayStation 5’s SSD and our tailor-made file-loading system, teleporting from one place to another now takes just seconds. You can jump right into domains almost instantaneously, ready to explore and fight.”

Qingyun mountain peak, “one of the most popular places in the game”, has received “a bit of a makeover” on PS5 too.

Yi also said miHoYo is exploring the potential of DualSense support and plans to add new controller features to the game at a later date.

The PS5 version of the game will launch alongside Genshin Impact’s major 1.5 update on April 28, 2021.

The update will delve deeper into the history of Liyue with Zhongli, while introducing new characters Eula and Yanfei, plus two new formidable enemies to fight and loot.

The update will also enable players to establish a personal realm in Teyvat to build a homestead, accessible with a brand-new item – the Serenitea Pot.
