Gears 5 multiplayer test open to all Xbox Live Gold members this weekend

Overwatch, Naruto to Boruto and Worms WMD also free to play

Microsoft has announced that the Gears 5 multiplayer tech will be open to all Xbox Live Gold members this weekend, while several other games will also be free to play.

The Gears 5 tech test includes access to competitive game type Escalation, “new and approachable” multiplayer game type Arcade, plus King of the Hill.

It also includes a new training mode called Bootcamp (shown in the video below) and a short Tour of Duty – a series of challenges for players to earn content, in this case a tech test banner and three versus weapon skins.

The Gears 5 tech test, which was previously available to Game Pass subscribers and those who pre-ordered the game, kicks off on Friday, July 26 at 10am PDT (6pm UK) and runs until Monday, July 29 at 10am PDT (6pm UK).

Additionally, Microsoft says Xbox Live Gold members can play Overwatch, Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, and Worms WMD for free until Sunday, July 28 at 11.59pm PDT (July 29, 7.59am UK).

Microsoft said in June that Gears 5 won’t feature a season pass and all DLC maps will be released free of charge. It also provided the first details about the game’s Tour of Duty battle pass system, as well as monetisation plans.

The Gears 5 release date is September 10, 2019 on Xbox One.
