Gearbox unveils the first PS5 game, Godfall
“Fantasy looter-slasher” to release alongside PlayStation 5 in 2020
Gearbox has unveiled the first game to be announced for PlayStation 5, fantasy “looter-slasher” Godfall.
The third-person action game is in development at California-based Counterplay Games and will release in Holiday 2020 for PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store.
According to the game’s website, Godfall will also release for Xbox Series X.
“Set in a bright fantasy universe, utilize melee combat to hunt for loot, don legendary armor sets, and pursue vicious enemies,” Gearbox said in a statement.
Godfall draws upon a new high fantasy IP written by Hugo Nebula award winners, its developer said, and is being developed in Unreal Engine 4.
The Godfall development team is comprised of around 75 people with experience working on the Ratchet & Clank series, God of War, Destiny 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Diablo III, Gears 5, Star Wars Battlefront, Titanfall 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Evolve, Halo 5, Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, Call of Duty, Injustice 2 and Overwatch.
The trailer showcased at The Game Awards on Thursday is described as “entirely in-engine.”
